Ethel Jagt

Ethel A. Jagt, 87, died March 6, 2004, at Bethesda Home, Goessel.

Born Sept. 8, 1916, at Sedgwick, she was the daughter of George and Carrie (Sills) Woffenden.

She attended grade school in Chester, Ark., and received her GED after moving back to Newton.

On Sept. 19, 1954, she married Peter Phillip Jagt at the home of her parents in Newton. He died in 2003.

She worked as a nanny and housekeeper for a family in Newton then for a number of years as a riveter at Boeing Military Aircraft Company in Wichita. She also was a counter clerk at Woolworth Stores in Newton and Redlands, Calif., and a cook for the public schools system.

She returned to Peabody in 1993 after retirement and became a member of Peabody United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher wherever she attended church. Other hobbies included baking, bird watching, traveling, and camping with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, James and Wayne Jagt; a daughter, Alice Jagt; three brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include a son, Arnold Jagt of Peabody; a daughter, Joyce Jagt of Highland, Calif.; a brother, Frank Woffenden of Coralles, N.M.; two sisters, Thelma Chamberlain of Newton and Annie Troxel of Halstead; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, with the Rev. Robert Priest officiating.

A memorial fund has been established with Rahoboth Missions of Arizona.
