Edwin Kinkead

Edwin Lyle Kinkead, 101, died Aug. 2, 2003, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

The son of Herbert and Stella (Hayes) Kinkead, he was born Jan. 6, 1902, at Peoria, Ill.

Raised by his mother and stepfather, John Snell, he attended school at Alma and Aurora.

He was raised on a farm near Aurora and worked for Mrs. Maish, his future mother-in-law until the mid-1930s.

He was married to Anna Margret Maish on Nov. 6, 1926, at Concordia. She died Dec. 29, 1979.

After farming for a few years he became a bellman at a hotel in Concordia for four years.

He then moved to Wichita and worked as a crew chief at Aero Parts Co. and later worked as an inspector at Boeing until 1945.

Mr. Kinkead moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and worked as a hotel bellman until 1970.

After moving back to Kansas he was at Partridge and Conway Springs prior to moving to Newton Midtown Towers.

In 1994 he moved to Peabody and in April of 1995 moved to St. Luke Living Center.

A member of First Christian Church, Newton, he also attended First Church of the Nazarene in Newton.

Services were held Tuesday morning at Broadway Colonial Chapel, Newton, with Pastor Roger O'Neal of Peabody Bible Church officiating. Graveside services were held that afternoon at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Survivors include sisters, Addie Stabb and Edith Just, both of Mayfield, Ky., and Ethel Ward of Cottonwood, Ariz.; granddaughters Tina Partridge and Doe Ann Hague of Peabody; grandsons, Tonny Del Vecchio of Peabody and Lonny Del Vecchio of Texarkana, Texas; son-in-law, John Del Vecchio of Peabody; four grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established in his name at St. Luke Living Center.
