Edith J. Hansel

Former Madison resident Edith J. Hansel, 90, of Florence, died Jan. 8, 2005, at Legacy Park, Peabody.

Born Aug. 8, 1915, at rural Madison, she was the daughter of John V. and Minnie P. (Gravatt) Cain.

She grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School.

She was a certified nurse's aide and homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Madison.

She married John Thompson and they later divorced.

On Dec. 6, 1942, she married Richard A. Hansel at Madison. He died in 1986.

She also is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Welch; and a grandson.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Thompson of Cartersville, Ga.; daughter, Joy Vannocker of Florence; brother, Franklin Cain of Gautay, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, Madison, with the Rev. Mike Brazzle officiating.

Burial will be in Blakely Cemetery, northwest of Madison.

Memorial funds have been established with First Baptist Church, Madison, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
