Dr. Jim Hoy to speak at meeting
Dr. Jim Hoy will present the program at the June 20 dinner meeting of the Marion County Historical Society meeting. The evening will begin with dinner at 6 p.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion.
Dr. Hoy's topic will be "Home on the Range: Kansas Folklore." He will discuss how customs, traditions, stories, crafts, and songs of our folklore bind us to our neighbors and distinguish us from them.
Hoy currently is a professor of English and director of the Center for Great Plains Studies at Emporia State University. He has published nine books and over 100 articles and also is co-author of "Plains Folk," a syndicated newspaper column which appears in the Marion County Record.
The Kansas Humanities Council, a non-profit cultural organization, has provided this opportunity to hear Dr. Hoy. KHC promotes understanding of history, traditions, and ideas that shape our lives and build communities by providing these programs.
Reservations for the dinner must be made by June 13. Call Marilyn Jones at 983-2815, Ross Baker at 983-2377, or Mary Olson at 620-382-3843 or purchase your tickets at The Maysville Mercantile, Peabody.
