Dixie Eberly
Dixie Scrivner Eberly, 90, retired teacher and Eberly Farm co-owner and founder, died June 16, 2002. Graveside service was held June 19 at Maize Park Cemetery.
Born Feb. 5, 1912, near Elbing, she attended schools in Elbing and Whitewater, graduating from Whitewater High School. She also attended El Dorado Junior College and Friends University. She taught in the Elbing, Maize, and Peabody schools.
On April 1, 1942, she married Merl Eberly in Whitewater.
After several years, Mrs. Eberly returned to teaching at Maize and later at Peterson Elementary School. She also served on the Maize school board and was a member of Eastern Star and Sedgwick County Homemakers Extension Unit.
In 1962, the family decided to open the farm as a recreation area. Their son, Sam, and his family, continue this business.
Mrs. Eberly's husband died in November 1998.
Two surviving sisters-in-law live in Peabody. They are Orlene Scrivner and Wauneta Scrivner.
