Discover New Trails theme of summer reading program

The 2004 Peabody Township Library summer reading program will "Discover New Trails" by exploring old trails such as the Lewis & Clark Expedition and by looking back at some of the pioneers who opened and tamed the wild frontier.

The program is available to children in preschool through sixth grade. They will discover books about trails and also be actively involved in activities that help discover what life was like for trailblazers in the past.

Activities include a "Discover Trails Around Peabody" event that will take participants along Peabody's historic Main Street. There will be a library hunt, Internet trail, and many literature activities from which to choose as well as books and prizes for participants.

Children interested in participating may pick up a reading packet at the library from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Children may enjoy refreshments June 2-4 when they pick up their packets. They also can sign up for summer reading sessions.

Reading sessions are from 10 to 11 a.m. June 22 and 29, and July 13 and 27. They will include more activities to discover trails including story time, snacks, games and crafts.

Anyone interested in helping out with sessions or donating snack or craft items should contact the library at 983-2502.
