Decorated Christmas wreaths will complement western theme
Peabody Main Street Association Christmas committee will host a silent auction of decorated Christmas wreaths during the week before the holiday promotion kick-off on Dec. 2.
The group has rounded up a stack of lariats on which to build some western looking holiday wreaths. Any group or individual is welcome to select a lariat at the city building, decorate it, and bring it back by Nov. 20 to have it entered in the silent auction.
The wreaths will be displayed in participating businesses along with a bid sheet so that interested citizens may enter a bid on the wreath that catches their fancy. High bidders will be announced during the live entertainment portion of the Dec. 2 festivities.
"The western prairie theme is a bit of a departure for a Christmas holiday in Peabody, but the prairie has always been a part of who we are," said Main Street president Mary Avery. "The committee has come up with some interesting ideas. We expect some of the wreaths will be quite unique."
The money raised from the silent auction will be set aside to help purchase banners for the light poles downtown.
