Deadline approaches for Women's Fair reservations
Ladies, it is not too late to register for the "How Does YOUR Garden Grow?" session titled, "Daffodils, Doilies, and Delicacies."
It's an excellent opportunity to join old friends, while meeting new ones, for a delightful morning of laughter and learning. The Women's Fair will be held in downtown Peabody at the senior center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12.
The day will begin with keynote speaker Marilyn Holt, a historical and editorial consultant. Holt has written books on the orphan trains, rural women, Kansas teen-agers, and Indian orphanages. She has appeared as a speaker at history conferences, teacher workshops, and civic group meetings.
Holt has been a member of the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers Bureau since 1993. Her program is sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council, a non-profit cultural organization with 30 years of experience promoting understanding of the history, traditions, and ideas that shape our lives and build community.
In addition to Holt's presentation, "Linoleum, Better Babies, and the Modern Farm Woman," Kay Neff, master gardener, Harvey County Extension Office, will present "Herbology." She will teach about herbs, planting them, and their benefits.
Peabody's Shirley Davis will be giving tips in home papering, with a presentation on reflexology and aromatherapy. Davis is a massage therapist at Legacy Park.
Connie LaRue of Jackrabbit Hollow will lead a craft session with an easy way to make bright ribbon daffodils for some fun home spring decoration.
Following LaRue's craft session will be a luncheon hosted by the fabulous cooks of the Peabody Historical Society. A tasty soup, salad, bread, and light dessert are on the menu.
Registration is $12 with lunch and craft supplies included. To register, call Joanna Brazil at the Peabody city office (983-2174). Reservations may be made in the evening with Peggy Radisewitz-Weir (983-2353). Space is limited, so call soon.
The "How Does YOUR Garden Grow?" series is hosted by the Peabody Main Street Association, a non-profit organization that strives to ensure that Peabody continues to grow and thrive while preserving its historic character through the involvement of the community.
