(From the April 10, 1947, files of the Peabody Gazette-Herald)

Two young men of the Peabody community were killed Sunday afternoon when a light Piper Cub trainer plane piloted by Elmo Clithero, 32, crashed in a field five miles south and two miles west of Peabody. R.O. Ball, 31, a passenger was killed instantly and Clithero died within a short time. Witnesses said the pilot had circled preparatory to landing when some pigs ran out onto the field and he was forced to continue flying. As he banked the plane for a landing in a pasture, the plane lost altitude and crashed. Both men were married and Mr. Clithero is also survived by a young daughter, Cora May.

Santa Fe Train No. 7, westbound, struck the stock rack of a truck driven by Fred Mosiman of south of Peabody last Saturday afternoon about 3:30 p.m. Mr. Mosiman was crossing the tracks at Walnut Street and failed to see the approaching train which struck the rear end of the truck, smashed the rack, and injured a calf in the truck so that it had to be killed.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scrivner of Newton, Rt. 3, are the parents of a baby daughter born Monday at Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton.
