DAYS OF YORE: 50 years ago

(From the files of the Peabody Gazette Herald, Dec. 4, 1952)

The Thanksgiving Day football game between Peabody and Marion was canceled due to the condition of the field from the eight-inch snow that blanketed the area.

The Conoco station changed hands during the past week. Gordon "Tod" Porter has purchased the station from H. V. Helm. Tod is in the service and is stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ark., and expects to be released sometime the first of the year. His brother, Charles Porter, assisted by Earl Madsen and Walter Wentworth will handle the station until Tod gets home.

To celebrate her birthday anniversary Sharon Walker invited her second grade class and her teacher, Miss Josephine McCreary, to her home Saturday evening. They were served lovely refreshments and then had a line party to the theater. Mrs. Walker was assisted in the serving by Miss McCreary, Mrs. W. E. Avery, and Mrs. Joe Winkley.
