Fire Thursday night, shortly after one o'clock, completely destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bentz. The estimated property loss is between $15,000 and $18,000. The fire apparently started in the attic and, according to firemen, was caused by defective wiring. Mr. and Mrs. Bentz and Wesley are staying at the home of his father and sister, W. A. Bentz and Miss Anna Bentz, for the present.
Junior High team beats Council Grove for an undefeated season. Scoring touchdowns for the team were Mickey Weems, Jerry Harder, Rodney Herbert, and Billy Frans.
Pheasant hunters going to LaVant included Linford Wehry, Delmar Sheridan, Robert Brewer, Merle Brewer, Vernon Vantuyl, and Harold Will. They report good luck.
The Santa Fe again will run a special streamliner to Lawrence Saturday, Nov. 8, for the University of Kansas-University of Nebraska football game. The train will leave Peabody at 8:20 a.m. and arrive in Lawrence at 11:15 a.m. Following the game, the train will leave Lawrence at 6:30 p.m., arriving in Peabody at 9:20 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Davis have purchased the house at 701 N. Poplar and they and the two daughters moved into their new home last Wednesday.
Mrs. and Mrs. Gary Skinner and family have moved in the house at 604 N. Walnut which was vacated by the Davis family.
