DAYS OF YORE: 50 years ago
(From the March 5, 1952, files of the Peabody Gazette-Herald)
Melody Ann Roberts arrived Thursday. The proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Roberts of Wichita. The Roberts also have a son, Randy, who is four.
Six Red Cross ladies from Peabody were in Newton last Tuesday where they worked with the Presbyterian church. Those who went were Mrs. W.E. Kiddoo, Mrs. Earl Graham, Mrs. Bryan Cullins, Mrs. Delmar Sheridan, Mrs. Walter Robinson, and Mrs. Glenn Davis.
Blocked roads late Monday afternoon caused many motorists to be stranded. The Ted Craigs, who were returning from Wichita, were unable to get through on the highway and decided to try the old trail but got stuck in a drift west of Clarence Windsors. Mrs. Don Mould and some of her relatives, who were also on their way home, had followed the Craigs and also got stuck. Unable to make it to the Windsor home on account of deep drifts, Craig walked back to the Richard McClure home and he rescued the eight people in two cars with a tractor and wagon. The McClures kept them overnight.
