(From the August 8, 1957, files of the Peabody Gazette-Herald)

Bernard Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benny Brooks, drowned Wednesday while going for a swim in Big Springs State Park at Van Buren, Mo. He was with the members of the Methodist Travelcamp on a trip to Florida. The youth was to have been a PHS senior this fall.

A group of "Indians" were photographed when the Cub Scouts held their camp-out in the Peabody Park. Those pictured were Mervin Vantuyl, Den Chief, Jay Vantuyl, Alex Shank, Wesley Shelper, Roger Frans, LeRoy Mosiman, and Bradley Bartel. The boys cooked their own meal, Indian style. Families were guests at the evening meal and some fathers spent the night with the lads.

Tucker Produce will close its doors permanently this Saturday night, according to L.E. Tucker. He said this week that operation in the produce business has been unprofitable for a long time. He has been in the produce business here for 26 years. Tucker plans to go into the feed business in Wichita.
