(From the June 20, 1957, files of the Peabody Gazette-Herald)
A 360-ton $12,000 "fruit jar" is being erected on the Sharpe farm southwest of Peabody farmed by John Reid. The structure, the latest thing in silos, is being put up in an unusual manner. Workmen "keep their feet on the ground" as the silo goes higher and higher. It is put together from the bottom and then lifted from the inside and another round of sections put in.
Johnny Searles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Searles, won first prize in his class of riders in the parade at Strong City recently. Johnny won in the Boys and Girls division from 11 to 18 years of age.
