THIRTY YEARS AGO (From the December 30, 1971, files of the Peabody Gazette Herald)

Tiny's Cafe, closed since the death last week of proprietor Donald "Tiny" Herbert, will re-open for business next Monday evening, Mrs. Herbert announced this week.

A new firm Wes's IGA, will be in operation in Peabody as of next Monday morning, Jan 1. Wes Pitts, longtime resident of Peabody has purchased the store operated many years by Doc and Mary Stovall on Hwy 50 and will reopen it under the new banner Monday.

FORTY YEARS AGO (From the December 28, 1961, files of the Peabody Gazette Herald)

Fred "Bud" Cullins who operates the Cullin's Standard Service station downtown, announces in an advertisement this week that Cullins Standard will also operate the Standard Service Station on Highway 50. Jerry Whisler will be the manager of the highway station.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hoch was awarded the 1st prize in the home decorations contest this Christmas season. Three 2nd prize winners were picked. They are the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whisler, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ferguson, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Madsen.

Mrs. Louis Engel of Peabody reports that she was the winner of $20 on "KIRL Call for Cash" Wednesday morning. KIRL is a Wichita Radio Station
