Sept. 12, 1996

Sherwin Ammeter died Tuesday afternoon when the truck he was driving collided with the engine of a train. The accident occurred at the Walton Road crossing on the old "Rock Island" tracks three miles south of Peabody.

Dustin Pohlman has been selected to be a part of Ozark Christian College's elite music group, "Impact Brass and Singers." Ozark Christian College is in Joplin, Mo., where Dustin is majoring in music.

Mary and Wayne Windsor stopped last Tuesday at the home of Mildred Windsor. They were returning to their home in Haven after a trip to Kansas City.

Appreciative crowds attended the open house which introduced Lynnie's Design Parlor to the community. The new shop at 111 S. Walnut offers antiques, gift items, wall coverings, and custom draperies, also design service.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burkholder of Emporia were Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burkholder.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Conkle and baby daughter, Jennifer are visiting Conkle's grandmother, Mrs. Bernice Jessen, and his aunt, Mrs. Pauline Martin.

Marilyn Gaines of Peabody was adjudged the winner in the beauty contest at the Marion County Fair last week.

Darrell Williams, Loren Hodel, Keith Harsh, David Moore, and Gary Bartlett of Florence were in Kansas City Sunday to see the national drag races.

James South plans to enter Emporia State College for the fall term.

Miss Margaret Hoston, head girl in the telephone office, has had to take an extended vacation on account of ill health. She visited her sister, Mrs. George Gunderman, in Burns last week and is spending this week in Topeka.

Miss Emma Skinner is trimming for a millinery firm at Garden City this season.

Miss Jessie Lamb went Thursday last to Lyndon where she will teach in the High School.

Died, in Peabody, Sept. 3, 1881, Bessie Ruth, infant daughter of John W. and Dora Rummage, aged 8 months and 9 days.

Dr. Buck, of this city, was in attendance at the meeting of the Southern Kansas Medical Association, at Florence on Tuesday.

Misses Mary Lackey and Nina Bush were in Marion Centre Tuesday.
