The Old Editor stumbles around so much these days, he might try another mode of locomotion. Although he has always disliked any mode of travel that required the passenger to straddle the animal or machine, he might try a bike. After all, one day recently we saw Vernon Lowden, Virgil Obermeyer, and Erling Anderson all crossing the main downtown intersection at the same time — and at least two of them qualify as "old guys."
Gary Jones is a write-in candidate for third district commissioner, and should he win, would he be a Republican, an Independent or a Reform Party member? He may be the Ross Perot of Marion County, but says he is about $2 billion shy of having the little Texan's funding.
Saturday Pauline, Irwin, Vada Ann, and Bill McPheeters joined two cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McPheeters of Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McPheeters from Agency, Mo., in Kansas City. The four cousins visited the Arabian Museum where they viewed the steam paddle boat that sank in the Missouri River in the 1800s while bringing supplies to the frontier.

Mark and Delia Levy, who have recently opened their new basket boutique in downtown Peabody, were awarded a prize for the best original exhibit at the art show in Marion Central Park.
Mrs. Dorothy Craig, Mrs. Florence Slocombe, Mrs. Agnes Davis, and Mrs. Hilda Baskins drove to Hutchinson Sunday afternoon to attend the 90th birthday observance honoring Mrs. Hazel Dukelow at the Good Samaritan Home.
Mrs. Godfrey Albright and Mrs. Goldie Homan were the Peabody volunteers who manned the senior citizen display booth last Wednesday at the Marion County Fair.

Mrs. Mary E. White of Wichita has announced the marriage of her daughter, Neva Boyd, to Ed Huguenin of Peabody. The wedding took place last Saturday in the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Wichita.
Mary Harsh and T.J. Schelske were united in marriage Saturday evening, Aug. 18 at 7:30 in the home of Rev. and Mrs. K. de Freese.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ferguson and family entertained Sunday in honor of their mothers' birthdays, Mrs. Ada Norton and Mrs. R.D. Ferguson. Mrs. Ada Gilchrist of Newton was also a guest.

Little Helen Slaymaker celebrated her 10th birthday anniversary Tuesday, the 14th, with the assistance of nine little girl friends: Vivian Heath, Elizabeth Heath, Mary Bird, Winnifred Bird, Lena Porter, Lafern Porter, Anna Bentz, Mary Wise, and Minnie Slaymaker. Sweet williams and sweet peas were the dining room decorations. Miss Notie Long assisted in the entertaining the little girls and Mrs. Rob Slaymaker and Mrs. Wood Slaymaker assisted Helen's mother, Mrs. Worthy, Slaymaker in serving an elegant three-course supper. Each little girl took Helen a nice birthday present.
Monday was Dwight Huguenin's birthday and his mother entertained a number of his little boy friends at a four-course 12 o'clock dinner in his honor.
The Peabody baseball nine will soon have its belt hung clear full of scalps if this thing keeps up. It has won three games last week. The battery for Peabody in a #4-1 win over Burns was Noll and Taylor. Burns had Westerhaus and Miller.

The contract for completing the courthouse and jail buildings at Marion Centre has been awarded to Messes. Koble and Tubbs for $2,500.
Work on the new sidetrack here was somewhat retarded last week in consequence of a strike by hands for higher wages. They were getting $1.50 per day but wanted more. Some returned, however, work on the "fill" is being pushed rapidly.
Mr. B. Fanning shipped to this place this week over 400 head of sheep of the Cotswold breed, which were bought in Missouri. They were sold here on Wednesday at public sale in lots of 25 and 30 for from $3.05 to $3.60 a head. This is considered a very good price.
