Doyle Valley Chautauqua will entertain this week. A large red and white striped tent will be set up in Santa Fe Park for Saturday and Sunday evening events. The two-day event is sponsored by the Peabody Historical Society.
The Peabody connection to the Dole campaign is two-fold. Whenever you see Bob and Elizabeth Dole there will likely be two Peabody folks with them. Most Peabody folks know Mike Glassner, one of Dole's closest aides and the man who is always with him, is often seen with the senator when he is shown on television. Fewer know that Becky Ediger, a longtime member of the White House detail for many years, having served with Dan Quayle, George Bush, and Ronald Reagan, prior to this administration.
Ted and O'Letta went to play golf at Hesston Thursday.

A tragic accident during a rainstorm last Thursday afternoon took the lives of Ruby and Albert Gibbs of Peabody and Frances Luginbill of Burrton. The accident occurred a mile and a half east of Walton on U.S.-50 on a curving stretch of road.
A bad fish kill was reported late last week at the old Rod and Gun Club lake northeast of Peabody. Thousands of large and small fish apparently died within a few hours. Fish and Game Commission officials say it appears that a lack of oxygen may have been the cause of the disaster.
Mrs. Twyla Cain from WaKeeney was a visitor Thursday at the home of Mrs. Ruth Truax. Mrs. Cain, formerly Twyla Skinner, was a Peabody resident during her school days.

All limitations on the use of commercial polio vaccine have been removed in Kansas, the State Board of Health announced this week. Anyone of any age may now receive the inoculation through their physician. At last report, Marion County had only four polio cases this year, none in this area. None of the four had received the vaccine.
Nite Lite EHU will have a craft day, Saturday, August 18 at 9 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Charles Eberhard. Mrs. Victor Funk will instruct the group in reed weaving of baskets and purses.
Dr. and Mrs. Royal Barker, Leigh and Lance, returned home Wednesday from vacation.

W.H. Morgan and wife left Tuesday night for a trip to Yellowstone and Cody, Wyo.
John Bechtel and Ashley Rood went to Garden City Tuesday on business.
J.C. Slaymaker returned from Colorado Saturday — greatly improved in health.

Ayres and Wareham are now running a full set of hands in pressing hay, which has fairly commenced to come into market. They put up 25-30,000 a day. Loose hay sells in the market here for $2.50 a ton.
H. Rivenburg's flouring mill has been running day and night most of the time since the recent repairs. This year's wheat crop is now fairly tuned upon the market and renewed activity is observed between grain buyers and mid-men.
Louise Mayes had a surprise party last Wednesday on the occasion of her birthday. A party of young folks gathered themselves and a sufficient amount of refreshments together and attacked the domicile of Mr. Mayes in force. All report "a grand good time."
