A group of interested citizens from St. John visited in Peabody last Thursday for a tour of Peabody's downtown area, plus a discussion on the Kansas Main Street program.

Southwind Internet is up and running in the Peabody community and several informational demonstrations have been set up to help answer questions and concerns about the system.

The 50th annual reunion of the descendants of William Skinner and his brother, Jim Skinner, was held in Peabody Aug. 3-4. There were 87 present, representing seven states. William and Margaret Skinner arrived in Peabody by covered wagons in October 1896.

Bill Graham sustained painful injuries last Wednesday when he was caught in a feed mill power shaft.

Full Vision Inc., of Newton, has announced it will sell their large building in Peabody at public auction this month. The structure in question is the building called the "Eyestone" or "Paramount" building.

Mr. and Mrs. Greg Wait of Prairie Village visited over the weekend at the home of Agnes Davis.

The road crew working on Highway 50S put down an oil mat driveway at Earl Graham's Phillips 66 station this week. The hard surfaced road runs through the station and out to the highway on either side.

Vote for Cleo M. DeForest, Republican for State Representative, 55th district, Marion County.

Several from here attended Marion County Who's Who 4-H meeting in Marion Saturday evening. They were Alfred Schmidt, Linford Schmidt, Bob Davis, Glenn Davis, Max Kottwitz, Nancy Mustoe, and Mrs. C.K. Mustoe.

august 2, 1906

A grand union picnic will be given next Thursday, Aug. 9, to be participated in by all the Sunday school folks of Peabody and all the surrounding county — and everybody besides Sunday school folks is invited for the Santa Fe Company have to be guaranteed 300 or more in order to make extremely low rate of 50c for the round trip — Peabody to Cottonwood Falls and return. The train will start about 8:30 and go via Strong City over the branch track to Cottonwood Falls, where there is a fine grove, and return before dark.

Born to Tom Hansen and wife, Monday, July 30, a daughter.

Commodore Heath's little daughters, Gladys and Bernice, have been sick but are greatly improved. Lucien Hoyt who has been laid up with a lame foot for several weeks, is able to be about again.

august 5, 1881

Cowley County is in a great ferment over the discovery that the returns of population in 1878 were "doctored" and made to show a greater population by 835 than there really was, the inference is that there was a conspiracy on the part of the county officers to defraud the county by making the showing of an excess of 1,500 population and thereby receiving $500 more for the County Clerk, $1,000 more for the treasurer, and $2.50 more each for the county attorney and superintendent; or it may be the work of one man.

We are often indebted to Mr. Amborn for favors — the last of which was a nice lot of ripe tomatoes.

Col. Pickney has purchased the residence property next door north of the Lee House.
