Cindy Tapphorn is the new administrator of Peabody Community Living Center.

The hottest days of summer eased a bit this week. Thursday's high was 101, on Friday the mercury hit 102 degrees, and Saturday it was 101 degrees again. Sunday was noticeably cooler but still had a high of 94 degrees.

Jewell and Naomi Davis were hosts to a family gathering at their home to celebrate the birthdays of Vickie Cook, Sam Wingert, and Tim Regier and anniversaries of Jay and Vicki Cook and Brandi and Jeff Rodriquez.

july 25, 1981

Milt Hett, retired Peabody carpenter, died last Wednesday, July 15, after a brief hospitalization. He was 76 years of age and a lifetime Marion County resident.

Mary Jane Sattler and Kevin Ross Burke were united in marriage on May 23 at Peabody United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bernice Jessen, Mrs. Pauline Martin, Mrs. Hazel McNeil, and Mrs. Ruth Murray attended the production Sunday evening of "I Do, I Do" at Crown Uptown Theater of Wichita.

july 19, 1956

Harry N. Baker, a resident of Peabody for more than 80 years, died Monday after a brief illness. He was 94 years of age. Survivors include a son, Paul Baker, and a daughter, Mrs. Helen Potter, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Eric Behrendt of Gillett, Wyoming, arrived Friday to visit friends and family here.

Mrs. Sadie Skinner spent Sunday in Newton visiting the home of her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moffett.

The Aid Society of the Stone Church will meet with Mrs. J.L. Orr next Wednesday afternoon. Ice cream and cake will be served.

Miss Lulu Buck is visiting her brother, Adelbert, and Will Brocket and wife at Anthony, Kansas.

Jimmie Kieler returned home Monday from Axtell Hospital, very much improved in health. His sister, Bessie, is also much better.

july 22, 1881

Some reckless people say it has been as hot as hades this week. Wonder how they know.

Mr. Lewis Weidlein is having erected at the rear of Peabody Bank a neat 2 story barn.

Mayor Kollock, while out riding Tuesday morning, was violently thrown from his buggy by the horse taking a sudden fright. He was picked up insensible, but the injuries sustained were not of a serious character, and no doubt he will soon be out again.
