Glen Yoder narrated the parade admirably, with that old small-town sense of humor. He also did the fireworks show as well.

Lisa and Brian McDowell and Alex returned home Tuesday after spending a long weekend at the home of his parents, Carol and Keith McDowell, at Clarksville, Ark.

Richard and Karen Good and Andrea of Lansing spent from Wednesday to Friday morning with his mother, Jane Good.

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Wilson and daughters from San Marcos, Calif., are spending a week in Peabody. They are guests of Mrs. Wilson's mother, Mrs. Dan Klein.

Mr. and Mrs. Perry E. Shores of Watonga, Okla., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest C. Seibel.

A park setting created a storybook atmosphere for a wedding celebration between Chuck Good and Susan Sanders on Saturday, June 20, at 1 p.m. at the Peabody City Park.

Mrs. Jerry Gilmer is helping out at Huguenin's Grocery for a few days this week during vacations.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Seibel and Nellie Lou will be supper guests July 4 in the Harvey Anderson home.

Lloyd Seibel of Los Angeles, Calif., was a supper guest Monday evening of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Seibel and family. Lloyd is a cousin of Victor's.

The county commissioners at their meeting on Monday allowed an appropriation of $200 toward a good stone bridge in Summit Township between section 9 and 16.

Miss Bertha Kent entertained the Scrap Bag Club Monday afternoon. There was the usual entertainment and light refreshments were served.

Mrs. J.B. Baker entertained at a five-course dinner at half past 6 o'clock Saturday evening. The decorations were nasturtiums.

Misses Maude and Grace Schriver gave a party at their home last Thursday evening in honor of Miss Lena Jolliffe who soon returns to Iola.

President Garfield was shot in the depot while on his way to Long Branch this morning (July 2). July 4: President Garfield is still improving and there are strong hopes for his recovery. July 6: The president's condition continues as favorable as at last reports.

Fred Bush has not been fighting Indians although his scalp shows thin.

Frank Brindley lost a very valuable horse last week from congestion of the lungs — supposed to have been caused by being too much heated in driving. It was a severe loss, and the more because it was one of a matched team.
