A party celebrating Peabody's 125th birthday will take place Saturday, July 6, at the Santa Fe Park area and the grassy area north of the Marshall Auction warehouse. Events planned for the evening will include a large, beautifully decorated cake that may possibly be the largest cake ever made for an event in Peabody.
Beth Brown came from Elkins, W.V., to visit her parents, Joe and Maxine Stockebrand. She left Sunday to go to Olathe to visit her sons. She will return to Peabody for the 4th of July.
Kevin and Elaine Dhuyvetter are pleased to announce the birth of a baby girl, born June 25, 1996. Katie Joann Dhuyvetter weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces. Her maternal grandparents are Warren and Donna Windsor.

Debbie Schlier, an independent artist from Wichita brushed on a coat of base paint on a building she is decorating in downtown Peabody. The ornate facade will be highlighted by a design using five colors. The building is being utilized by Mark and Delia Levy of Peabody as a baby basket warehouse and store.
Patricia Ketchum is now enrolled in a summer course, "How to teach creative writing" at Wichita State University. Mrs. Ketchum is a member of the Wichita State University faculty. She served last winter as an instructor of English there.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harder were host and hostess to a birthday dinner Sunday honoring Margaret Kieler. Other guests were Jennie Kieler and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Entz and family.

Workmen will begin next week putting a new front on the Peabody Bakery building, according to Mr. and Mrs. John DeForest, who own the building.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Murray and children arrived home Tuesday evening from Seattle, where they arrived last week on the first leg of their homeward journey from Alaska.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Madsen announce the arrival of a son, Jeffrey Ray, born Monday morning at St. Luke Hospital in Marion. He weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces.

June 28, 1906
One hundred thirty years ago the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia and in honor of the anniversary the people of Peabody and vicinity will assemble at our beautiful city park for a grand old-fashioned picnic, to be followed by something interesting all afternoon. The Peabody Brass Band will lead the procession to the park at high noon. There will be plenty of shade, plenty of ice water and admission to the park is free. Bring your baskets well-filled and invite your friends. A trotting matinee at 1:30 with four races, an exciting baseball game between the Hillsboro and Peabody cubs and a merry-go-round, swings, and other attractions for young folks. You are invited.
Oscar C. Knowles of Wellington, formerly of Peabody, was elected sergeant of the state undertakers' association at the meeting in Wichita last week.
Mrs. Willis Westbrook and two younger children will leave today to spend the summer with relatives at Cadillac, Mich.

Arbors are being erected on the fairgrounds and there will be ample accommodations for a big crowd.
Jay Rush started for Minnesota on Wednesday morning to find a cool place to hunt and fish.
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad has contracted for 2,500 freight cars, 39 engines, and 39 passenger cars.
H.E. Woolheater will have a supply of firecrackers for Fourth of July, also toy pistols, paper caps, torpedoes, etc.
