If you want to keep this business in Peabody it will be necessary to patronize it for all your needs in this line or I shall be compelled to seek a more renumerative location. It costs no more to purchase through me than through other sources, many times less, besides building a business that will be of great benefit to you in the future. Fred Gowan.

Another attempt upon the life of the assassin Guiteau was made shortly after the adjournment of court on the sixth day of the trial. The prisoner was being convey back to jail in the prison van. As the van turned in to East Capital street, heading for the jail, a man on a wiry sorrel gelding dashed up to the side of the vehicle. "Oh, there you are, you son of a _____!," shouted the rider and discharged one shot from a revolver through the side of the van at Guiteau. The real shooter escaped. Guiteau was pitiable plight. Already he had suffered a hundred deaths from Abject terror. His grazed left wrist was slightly grazed but bleeding freely. His terror had produced a spontaneous movement of the bowels and presented a disgusting appearance.
