Mrs. Koni Jones, city coordinator, suffered severe chest pain at a Newton physician's office Dec. 5 and was hospitalized. She was diagnosed as having a blood clot in her leg that broke loose and got to her lungs. She remains hospitalized.
Norma Anderson and her daughter, Shelene Winter of Walton spent Sunday together. They enjoyed Christmas shopping part of the day.
Mr. and Mrs. Rex Jewell and Jennifer of Manhattan and Bryce Palmgren of Kansas City were Sunday dinner guests of Gladys Jewell, celebrating her birthday at Turkey Red.

Norris Wika, superintendent of schools at Wamego and former superintendent at Peabody-Burns made the news last week, when Wamego was involved in a dispute with the legislative division of the state's post audit department. Wamego refused to give the post audit people access to records of psychological reports in special ed students, risking the loss of $1.4 million in state education funds.
Gene Larson was a visitor in Peabody Nov. 13-18 at the Roy Larson Home. He made the trip from Illinois by Amtrak.
Entertainment at Peabody Senior Center Monday was offered by the Youngtown Quartet with their program of gospel songs. Their selections included "Count Your Blessings," "Bless This House," and "Teach Me to Pray."

november 21, 1957
Two Peabody girls were injured, neither critically, last Saturday evening in an auto accident in the 600 block of Olive Street. Janice Beeton, driver of the car, suffered severe facial lacerations requiring 30 stitches to close. Virginia Cape, the other girl, had 14 stitches taken on less serious head injuries.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fife of Chicago, Ill., are parents of a son, Paul David, born Sunday, Nov. 17. He weighed 6 pounds 5 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Hartman Baker are the maternal grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Fife of Arkansas City are the paternal grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kirkpatrick of Biloxi, Miss., arrived here Tuesday night to spend a 15-day furlough in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kirkpatrick.

Robert Trego, west of town, finished digging his potatoes Saturday. He says he got more than 100 bushels from considerably less than an acre of ground and has been offered a dollar a bushel for the crop. Beats alfalfa. — Sedgwick Pantograph
Orr Moffett and Fred Pettit, students at the state university, came home yesterday for the Thanksgiving recess. They were met at Florence by Mrs. Ed Graham, Mrs. Dave Sterling, Misses Annie Johnson, Mildred Pettit, Laura Moffett and Grace Irwin and Lester Homer and Paul Baker, who had gone over on Nov. 6.
Mrs. W.A. Morgan of Cottonwood Falls was a guest of the Gazette household from Monday until yesterday.
The Methodist ladies will serve both dinner and supper in connection with their bazaar, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 and at which all sorts of articles suitable for Christmas gifts will be for sale. Place still undecided.

Merchants are paying for butter 22c, eggs 23c, dressed chickens 8c per pound, live chickens $2.25 to $2.75 per dozen.
Thanksgiving Day was generally observed in Peabody. Both of our city bands were on the streets and played several tunes, about 10 o'clock, the hour set up by the mayor for the closing of business houses. Union services were held at the Christian church, Rev. Walker officiating. The Grand Central Hotel gave a Thanksgiving dinner in Mrs. Lee's best style. The Methodists gave a public supper in the evening.
