november 27, 1997

Peabody-Burns High School music and drama presented the musical, "Meet Me in St. Louis," Friday and Saturday. The cast performed wonderfully and produced a good show, director Steve Glover commented. The audience seemed to agree.

Molly Sue Kangas is the final contestant for this year's Victorian princess. Molly is 16 years old and is the daughter of Ken and Sue Kangas of Peabody.

The Heart of America League sponsored a senior day Nov. 12 for league schools. Three seniors from Peabody were selected by faculty to attend this event. Shaun Rucker, Jennifer Jacobs, and Jandee Post went to Wichita State University where they met with other league schools and participated in the "True Colors" program.

The area experienced record cold temperatures this week with readings at the Florence weather station Thursday morning of 15 degrees and Friday morning of 12 degrees and we still have not received much needed rain.

Jeff Moore earned more recognition Saturday when he moved from defense to offense to lead the Southwestern Moundbuilders to a 55-13 win over McPherson. Moore rushed for 179 yards and scored two touchdowns in his first offensive start this year.

Mrs. Ruth Murray was hostess to Wednesday afternoon luncheon bridge club this week, two tables playing. Mrs. Shreves Avery was a guest.

Mrs. Earl Fickert and Mrs. Bill Krause were in McPherson Friday on business. While there they called at the Les Neal home.

Jack Collins of Topeka is the new meat department head at Mathias IGA. He takes over this week, starting work on Monday.

Nancy Mustoe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.K. Mustoe is a new member of the Home Economics Club at Emporia State College.

A crowd of young folks had a dance at Butler hall Friday night. A dozen couples were in and tripped "the light fantastic" until a late hour.

Silverlace Wyandotte roosters for sale, 50c each, by Mrs. A. Yoder, 5 miles northwest of Peabody, Route 2.

Sam Moffett and Harry Slaymaker went to Lawrence Saturday to attend a football game and returned Monday morning.

William Gray and Fordyce Gray have bought Phillip Wagner's 160 acres of pasture land two or three miles southeast of town. Consideration $4,500.

november 23, 1882

The Lotus Club will meet at the rooms of Mr. Boring, north of Amborn's nursery on Saturday evening. The lesson is "Wordsworth." The meetings this winter will be very interesting.

Frank McKercher has the only telephone in town. It runs from the depot to his residence, near the school house.

Charley and Howard Rathbone were out hunting Tuesday, and bagged a fine mess of quail.

A reward is offered by members of the Christian church for information of the person who threw a stone through the window of that church building.
