Fred Berns was present as a taxpayer to urge the board and administration to stand firm on the fact that the gymnasium floor is unacceptable.

Mike and Lana Bensen are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Katelyn Nicole. She was born Nov. 12, 1997. She was 20 1/4 inches long and weighed 7 pounds 13 3/4 ounces.

On Oct. 31, 1997, Bruce and Jean Smith hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner in honor of their son, Brian James, and his fiancée, Missa Jen Spangenberg, and her family at the Scotch and Sirloin restaurant in Wichita.

Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Maples hosted a coffee for several couples following the Peabody/Centre football game Friday night.

Amy Grosse and all the fourth grade girls from Peabody Elementary school enjoyed a lively Halloween party at the Tom Grosse home last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker were in Dodge City during the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gene Schmill and family.

Ernest Roberts visited his father, J.E. Roberts, at the Salem Home in Hillsboro Tuesday evening.

Melvin Burdorf of Peabody, a student in civil engineering at Kansas State College at Manhattan, has pledged Sigma Tau, an honorary civil engineering fraternity. Only students ranking in the upper 10 percent are eligible for membership in this fraternity.

Glenn Edmonds, Bob Edmunds, Ross Mathias, Bill Avery and Dan Klein left Friday for South Dakota on a hunting trip. They were due home yesterday.

The muddy weather of late has demonstrated the fact that a sidewalk from the corner of the Santa Fe depot to Walnut Street would be a big convenience.

J.M. Bechtel and Mrs. Levi Hoover have returned from Indiana.

Rev. Snyder of Stone church is improving after several weeks' illness.

The whistle at the electric light plant blew long and loud about half past 10 o'clock Halloween and the citizenship was fearful of fire, but none developed. The next day it was discovered that mischievous boys had tied the fearful whistle and the fearful din could not be stopped until Mr. Gibney climbed on the roof and released it. The affair was especially regretted because the whistle is so near the house in which at the very time, Mrs. Lon Miller was breathing her last.
