Shirley Hull, Judy Bazil, Adena Kasper and Marge Seymour are featured in a front page photo, complete with "Away with Liquor" and "Abolish Demon Rum" posters, as they promote the Nov. 15-16 moonlight tour of Peabody.

Warren and Letha Hughes met Duane and Mary Holton of Hutchinson Saturday night in Newton and they enjoyed dinner out.

Nancy and Maurice Meirowsky were among members of Circle Eight Square Dance participants in the Remington High School Drama Club's fund-raiser. It was held Friday evening.

Most older residents of Peabody are aware that Oscar Stauffer, one of America's leading newspaper publishers in his later years, was once the publisher of the newspaper in Peabody. Stauffer died a couple of years ago and this Saturday will be named to the Kansas Newspaper Hall of Fame at Kansas University.

The Wheatstone Inn at Marion Lake was a lovely setting for the History Club luncheon meeting at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22. Mrs. Kenneth Windsor presented an account of a recent 11-day bus tour that included two days at the World's Fair.

october 24, 1957

Elaine Slocombe, a senior student at Peabody High, was crowned homecoming queen Friday night. The queen's attendants were Karen Heath and Sheryl Thornton.

Raymond Dean Thouvenel of Peabody was found guilty to accounts of assault with intent to kill as well as forgery Monday in district court. The court also made a special finding that the habitual criminal statute be applied in the case. Thouvenel was then sentenced to Kansas Penitentiary for a period 30 years, however, one 10-year term was to run concurrently with the other terms, making the actual sentence 20 years.

Brock Baker and Jerry Foth went to Chicago Friday night and returned home Sunday with a new station wagon ambulance for Baker Funeral Home.

A good soaking rain all day Friday was just what the wheat needed and was good for all the ground.

Mrs. Van Patten is convalescing nicely from her recent operation and Mrs. Barker, the nurse, has returned to her home in Newton.

Mrs. Ed Sammis came up from Oklahoma City last Wednesday for a visit with her parents, C.W. Bragunier and wife and Mrs. D.L. Sammis.

November 9, 1882

Mr. and Mrs. Lee have moved into town and the Grand Central Hotel will be formally opened on next Saturday evening. They invite all to come and see them.

Miss Jessie Oakes had a "candy pull" last Saturday evening, attended by a house full of friends who helped stretch the sweetness.

The Lotus Literary Club will meet at the home of J.E. Bruce, north of town, tonight, instead of at Dr. Grinnell's as we announced last week.
