Ross and Rosalee Baker returned home last Tuesday, Oct. 14, after spending three weeks in England with their son Steve and Karen Baker and children Erin and twins Lindsey and Colin. Their home is 20 miles from London, with trains running every 30 minutes, making for an easy commute.

The Peabody Historical Society will be presenting a 1920s home tour Nov. 15 and 16. Featured in this week's paper is the charming 1920s bungalow home of Alan and Diane Yock, 305 N. Sycamore.

A winner has been drawn for Jim's Jack and Jill $50 shopping spree. The lucky winner is Gary Branham of Peabody.

Late Warrior scoring splurge was not enough — lost 59-27. The final score was Hillsboro 59, Peabody 27 and there was no doubt that the Warriors were outclassed by the Trojans.

Muriel Wolfersperger and Kris Wolfersperger returned the first of the week from a week's vacation. They visited in Iowa at the Amana colony, at Des Moines and Galena, and then visited a niece of Muriel's in Chicago.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McClure returned Oct. 3 from their recent eastern trip. The McClures flew to New York and joined the autumn New England tours.

The Peabody Warriors took the measure of a very good Douglass team Friday night on the Douglass field, 27-7. With Peabody's three-horse, two-jockey backfield living up to every promise, the work of the Peabody line was the crowning achievement. Another pleasing spectacle was Kenny Guthrie's kicking of three conversion attempts out of four times. Art Paul faked into the lines so viciously on one play that the whole Douglass team was fooled.

Mrs. O.E. Palmer of Peabody was one of the honored old-timers at the Old Settlers' Day celebration in Marion last Friday. The local lady was the oldest native Marion County born person at the affair.

Lynette Thornton is active in KSTC campus politics. Miss Thornton is majoring in women's physical education at Emporia State.

october 10, 1907

O.L. Jackson, the new laundryman and wife, have moved into rooms over the Star restaurant.

Henry Winsor shipped a load of hogs to Wichita Monday.

The Gazette office now has a good engraving of a Duroc Jersey for use of our patrons who wish to use one on their cards or stationery.

The Chrysanthemum Club was delightfully entertained by Mrs. G.A. Baker last Thursday morning. Next meeting at the home of Mrs. Chesshir.

october 17, 1882

Hay forks, three tines, 50c; four-tined manure forks 60c at Western Lumber Company.

A wagon load of prairie dogs were brought to town this morning — for sale. That is giving the little fellows too much prominence.

A car load of winter apples in barrels are now for sale at the Red Front.

Miss Emma Holler who has been in New Jersey some months, engaged in artistic painting, returned home this week.
