The University of Kansas annually sponsors Kansas Honors Program in support of seniors who have excelled academically throughout high school. Jennifer Jacobs, Jandee Post, Shaun Rucker, and Brian Smith were recognized this year as students who rank in the top 10 percent of their graduating class.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Taylor of Hillsboro hosted Avis Herbert and Joan Berns to a luncheon Thursday at the Carriage House at Yoder. A tour of mid-Kansas small towns was enjoyed by all.

Tana and Nathan Clegg of Lehigh had Saturday night supper with Jack and Betty Sebree as well as Jake Watts. They rowed out to Dale Buller's spring to see the monarchs come in. (It must have been a very wet day?)

september 16, 1982

Dr. Donald Good, son of Mrs. Jane Good and the late Irvin Good of Peabody returned home last week from England. Dr. Good was one of the eight lecturers to speak at the 15th IBM University of Newcastle upon Tyne University Level, held Sept. 7-10.

A "twice as nice" shower was staged Saturday night by friends of the Dale Belchers. The group gathered at the home of Miss Julie Irish and from there traveled by truck-drawn hayrack to the Belchers' home. There Dale and Nancy were presented gifts and refreshments of ice cream and cake were enjoyed by all.

Gary Jones spent Sunday with the FFA boys at the Kansas State Fair where the group supervised the Kiddie Barnyard during the day.

september 12, 1957

County commissioner Ed Nicklus reports this week that a number of pianos have been offered for Cedar Rest Home, followed the report last week that owners needed these.

Alvin Bernhardt, brother of Sheriff Ezra Bernhardt, lost an eye last week as a result of an unusual accident. He was watching Eddie Schroeder drive an axle out of a car when a splinter of steel flew behind his eyeglasses and struck him in the eye. Vision has been completely lost in the eye, the doctors say.

A quaint and little used method of climbing fences has been revived by J.A. Snavely at the Snavely home on Olive. He has erected a sty over a fence rather than making the conventional gate.

Drs. Linda and Julie Otte were in Wichita Saturday and stopped on their way home and spent Sunday with their brother in Whitewater.

The Century Club had a very pleasant meeting at the home of Mrs. E.H. Bonesteel on Friday afternoon. The study of Ruskin's "Seven Images of Architecture" will be taken up at the next meeting which will be at the home of Mrs. Stephens.

There is a new automobile in town and Dorothy Bauslin is the proud possessor. It is a toy machine but a source of great interest to all children.

Oh, the dust — oh, for a rain.

Mrs. M.W. Graham has been elected captain of the checker club. She is the best player.

We shook hands with Senator Plumb last Saturday as he passed on the fast train.

Aaron Stewart has been on the sick list lately.

Mrs. Pecare is expected home Saturday.
