The VFW Post and Auxiliary hosted a farewell party for Larry Reagan on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Larry and his wife moved to New York Sept. 12. He was presented with an engraved pocketknife and a framed certificate of appreciation with thanks for his many years of volunteer service in the VFW.

The Antique Show and Sale made it seem like old times — people eating hot dogs on curbs, children playing in the streets and downtown Peabody with people milling in and out of stores reminded people of what hometown Main Street is all about. Through the efforts of the antique committee headed by Marilyn Payne, with Koni Jones, Gary Jones, Sharon Oursler, and Francis Payne, 22 antique dealers showcased their works in many buildings.

Helping Ruth Wright celebrate her 75th birthday Saturday, Sept. 20, (one day late) were her family members and friends.

Paul Richmond of Peabody has accepted a position with the Commercial National Bank of Kansas City, Kansas, and has resigned his vice presidency at the Peabody State Bank, effective Sept. 20.

David Mellott and Shelli Whisler were weekend guests of their parents, the Allen Mellotts. Shelli is a freshman at Wichita State University and David is a student at Emporia State.

The Peabody Senior Center was the scene of the open house reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Lachenmaier Sunday in honor of their 50th anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Myers of Horton are moving into the Mrs. Freeman house being vacated by the Harry Browns. Mr. and Mrs. Myers have four sons. He is the area representative for the Nutrena feed company.

Earl Fickertt was in Hutchinson Tuesday morning where he attended the funeral of his aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Paul. Her husband, Dave Paul, died just two months ago, his funeral being on July 3. Mrs. Paul was 83 years of age and her husband was 91.

George Gephart, Peabody filling station operator and former sheriff of Marion County, died last Thursday in Axtell Hospital following surgery. He was 70 years of age, having been born in Parkersburg, W.Va., June 10, 1887.

september 12, 1907

Mrs. Ed Graham entertained members of the Dinner Club and a few others at a "kitchen shower" in honor of Miss Long last Friday evening. For the dinner which was served in four courses, the decorations were all pink and white, the flowers being pink and white asters and the place cards pink hearts with pictures of the bride and groom on the back. These made unique souvenirs. In the parlors purple asters were the decoration.

A delightful social function was given at the home of J.L. Heath Monday in honor of Miss Notie Long. The luncheon was served in five courses and the table decorations were white asters.

Miss Pearl Lauck will begin teaching in the Cites school in Summit next Monday.

This week Rockwell and Sexton will put up for Mr. Calbeck a 12-foot Acme pumping mill and also will ship to the Burtons a 13 1/2-foot geared mill and feed grinder.

If the persons who took the papers from the library will return them, they will not be prosecuted, otherwise they will. The Township Board.

J.R. Dobbs of Antelope reports J.C. Rolph's wheat averaging 30 bushels to the acre and I.A. Waterman's oats 60 bushels to the acre.
