The Peabody Christian Church has chosen Sunday, Sept. 28, to observe the 125th anniversary of its founding in 1872.

Peabody city council rejects proposed water tower "sight." (That's what it said.)

Rod and Donna Hague had an open house chair massage therapy class for Shirley Hull Sept. 3. Twelve guests attended. Great relaxation and fun were had by all. Snacks and refreshments were served.

august 26, 1982

Jill White, one of the more outstanding members of the outstanding Peabody High School class of 1982 suffered slight injuries in an accident Saturday morning but for a time her family and friends were concerned that her injuries might be very serious. Jill, her sister Diane, were working on a two-person acrobatic exercise when Jill fell, hitting her head on the gymnasium floor. She was knocked unconscious and for a few terrible minutes it was feared she had suffered severe neck or back injuries. She was rushed to Newton by ambulance where a complete check and X-ray were taken and it was found she had suffered no serious injury.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Good and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Woodruff returned over the weekend after a several day trip to the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tenn. The trip was marred by an accident in Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff struck a slick spot in the road near Springfield, causing them both to lose control of their machine. Both were unseated in the road and the motorcycle went on another 100 feet before stopping. They were only traveling about 20 miles an hour when the accident occurred. Neither suffered any injuries except bruises.

Darren Weems suffered an accident last week while he was working on his car. He spent 24 hours in Axtell Hospital, managed to recuperate in two days' time, and left Friday to attend Emporia State University.

august 22, 1957

Several folks from Peabody have appeared on KAKE-TV show, Party Line, in recent days. Friday Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hodel and Mrs. Minnie Hallet were on the show and Herb won a bag of groceries. Tuesday Mrs. Joe Gaines, Mrs. Fordyce Gray, Mrs. Don Gillet, and Mary Gaines were on the show. Mrs. Gillet won a hat for giving a commercial in competition with three others.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Hoch will move into Mrs. Hattie Snyder's house Sept. 1. He is the new assistant athletic coach at Peabody High School. He has been attending summer school at Greeley, Colo.

George Becker was elected commander of the Peabody Post 95 American Legion at the special election meeting held at the Legion hut Tuesday evening. Becker succeeded Tod Porter as commander of the post.

august 29, 1907

Richard McMillan was born in Ohio, June 21, 1831, where he resided to young manhood. He enlisted in the 45th Illinois Infantry Sept. 1, 1861, and served until mustered out on July 12, 1865. Three different times he was wounded, once being left on the battlefield for dead. He has resided in this community the last eight years until his death, Aug. 22, 1907.

Scott Brothers are moving their furniture store into the Otte Building.

Miss Bertha Johnson, living north of town and George Remple of Wilson Township were married on the 21st at Marion by Probate Judge Vaugh. That evening the bride's mother entertained some 50 guests in their honor. An elegant supper was served. The bride, in a gown of India linen, looked very pretty.

Charley Westbrook has a horse in training for the fair, also will enter a fine lot of cattle, hogs, and sheep.

Codfish balls, fresh mackerel, and brook trout at the Red Front.

O.J. Roberts has improved the appearance of his store front by a coat of paint.
