The Turkey Red Restaurant has been named a 1997 recipient of the "Feeding the World Partnership Award" sponsored by the farmers and ranchers of Marion County Farm Bureau. The program, in its first year, seeks to recognize area businesses that have exhibited utmost care and pride in distributing the quality commodities produced by Kansas farmers and ranchers.
The Peabody High School Class of 1957 celebrated their 40th class reunion at Bandon, Ore., July 30, Aug. 1 and 2. Class members and spouses enjoyed visiting and touring the Oregon coast. Group tours and activities were planned by their classmates, Juanita (Thach) Watson and her sister, Pat (Thach) Hunnell of Bandon, Ore.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Slocombe were among the families who attended the wedding of Mike Sears and Liz Mason at Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 9.

Virginia (Mrs. Andy) Shank suffered a heart attack Monday and died in a short time. She had previous problems with heart troubles but had apparently been in good health in recent months.
Kay Crider Martinez, M.D., will open the Axtell-Peabody branch next Monday, Axtell officials reminded this week. Dr. Martinez' specialty is family practice. She and her two daughters will reside at 605 Sycamore, Peabody.
The appointment as fire chief of Duane Unruh (by the city council) was approved. Unruh has been on the force several years. His father, Roy Unruh, was chief for a number of years.

William Matz, prominent farmer of the rural area north of Peabody, died unexpectedly late Friday evening of a heart attack. He was 58 years old and had not been ill prior to the attack. He is survived by Mrs. Matz, three daughters, Mrs. Donna Windsor of Peabody, Mrs. Adeline Spangler of Newton, and Mrs. Dorothy Wentz of Wichita and one son, Allen Matz of Peabody.
Davie Seibel celebrated his fifth birthday Tuesday afternoon. The afternoon was spent playing and a wiener roast was enjoyed by the following youngsters: David Ensign, Max Ferguson, George Ward, Freddy Johnson, Jerald Vogt of Hillsboro and Judy Lee, Patsy, Rickie Seibel and the honored guest, Davie Seibel.

Harry Christ died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Levi Fredricks, after two months of illness at age 81, five months, and three days. Of the 12 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Christ, six survive. Besides the three who live in Peabody, a daughter, Mrs. Sam Scholopp and husband of El Dorado were present but the sons, John of Illinois and Henry of California could not be here.
John Peiffer, for 20 years a resident of Peabody and vicinity, died at his home in Marion of liver trouble.
Doris Louise, the two month old baby daughter of Dr. Walter Johnson and wife of Elbing died in Topeka Tuesday morning. The baby had been sick all its short life and about 10 days ago the mother took it to Topeka to be treated by a specialist in baby diseases but it was unavailing and the little life came to an end at the home of its grandmother, Mrs. S.E. Johnson on Tuesday. And here at the home of the other grandmother, Mrs. Melissa Walker, the funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Murphy at 10 yesterday morning and the little one was laid away in Prairie Lawn cemetery. Dr. Walter Johnson has sold his practice in Elbing to Dr. W.E. Regier. Dr. Johnson has not yet decided upon a location.

Mr. Loman's child, which died last week, was only five months old.
Elmer Mayes has taken a position in the Peabody State Bank but he won't take anything else.
Sylvester Westbrook and wife of Nebraska are visiting local relatives.
