The Peabody Antique Show and Sale is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, in downtown Peabody. Currently 15 dealers from four states have signed a contract to appear at this year's show.

Sharon Hamric, popular writer with the Wichita Eagle and her daughters, along with Sharon's brother, "Tubby" Hamric and family from Boston recently shopped in town.

Pat Wood has been moved from the cardiac ICU to the regular ICU at St. Francis hospital in Wichita.

Jean Maples was elected president of the District 398 board of education and Don Lemley was named vice president.

Mr. and Mrs. Epp Brown will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 1 with an open house reception in the Peabody American Legion building from 2 to 5 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harder entertained Sunday in honor of Miss Margaret Kieler's birthday.

july 8, 1957

Marilyn Gaines, Peabody teen-ager, received cuts and bruises on her leg Saturday afternoon in an unusual one car accident on north Walnut street. Miss Gaines, accompanied by Judy Whisler, was driving north on Walnut in a 1938 Ford sedan when the footfeed became stuck. About this time the car struck a double drainage ditch throwing the speeding car out of control. It skidded and upset on Don Pierce's lawn. She was taken to Dr. Wood's office for treatment and has been on crutches for a few days. Miss Whisler was uninjured except for bruises.

Funeral services were conducted July 14 at 2 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home for Mabel Louise Yoder, wife of P.L. Yoder, Peabody farmer. Three children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. Two sons survive, Fred, his wife and two children and Bob and wife and two children.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Baker entertained at a dinner Thursday evening honoring the birthday of Mrs. Hartman Baker.

Don't fail to hear the Saturday afternoon concert on August 3 by the Rip Van Winkle band. This organization is everywhere spoke of as one of the best band shows on the road and a treat is in store for all lovers2 of high class music.

J.M. Bechtel and wife of Peabody are visiting the family of his son W.A. Bechtel of Pleasanton. Mr. Bechtel enjoys the distinction of being one of the biggest men in the state, if not actually the largest. He weighs 325 pounds but is well proportioned and active, and it goes without saying, he is a man of rare good nature.

Monday was the hottest day of the year. The thermometer got to 105 degrees F.

july 6, 1882

The city marshal of Blue Rapids killed 14 dogs in one day lately.

Our city stores are closing at 8 p.m. every evening now.

Wool twine, 9c a pound at Western Lumber Company.

Fans, a good variety, at Hoyt and Westbrook's.

The Eagle House at Walton is again in full blast. S. Becker, its proprietor is doing his best for the traveling public.

Trains are run now at nearly all hours of the day. Very convenient indeed.
