The Peabody Library, now the Peabody Museum, was graced with a lovely fountain in 1886. Now, 111 years later, the fountain is perhaps more beautiful than the original, thanks to modern techniques and materials. The restoration work was funded by contributions to the late Smokey Lachenmaier and Bill Avery. Dedication of the fountain will take place at 4 p.m. July 4.

Sunday was a memorable day for Marilyn Cox, her family and friends, as her ordination in the Methodist church was celebrated.

Alice Blackmur Litton and Hazel Vantuyl McClure graduated 80 years ago from Peabody High School. Another classmate, Myra Snyder lives in Michigan. It is believed that only Jessie Kincaid Uhlman of Newton is older — she graduated in 1915.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, for Ann W. (Mrs. Tom) Potter of Wichita, formerly of Peabody.

Beth Slocombe is attending the Heart of America girls' basketball camp at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Skinner celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Lawrence Sunday, June 6. Those present from Peabody were Mrs. Garnet Herbert, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Skinner and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Windsor.

The annual Red Cross swimming classes will be held again this year at the Hillsboro pool. Again this year the local swimmers will be taken to Hillsboro by Guthrie and Rowland buses.

Dr. Maxine Wells, formerly of Peabody but now of Herington, is still a patient in a Kansas City hospital in critical condition from injuries suffered in an auto accident three weeks ago in Marion County.

Robert Ensign, former Peabody High School music teacher who has returned as instrumental director after two years in service, is getting back in the swing of things, he reports.

Alf Kent brought his father home from the hospital at Kansas City last Thursday. Mr. Kent is in very serious condition.

Maggie Stretcher has been down from Aulne this week visiting her father, J.W. Stretcher and other relatives.

The bid of Seybold and McKain to furnish meals and refreshments, on the grounds, during the fair was accepted.

W.D. Butler is making a much needed improvement in his sidewalk.

The railway officials and locomotive engineers at the depot are very much annoyed by little boys jumping on and off the trains, at the risk of their limbs and their lives and the Gazette has been requested to call Marshal Christfield's attention to the fact that there is an ordinance prohibiting such conduct and to ask him to enforce it.
