Avenell Harms was killed in a two-vehicle collision near St. John Monday. Rev. Duane Harms, Avenell's son and a friend were all seriously injured. Rev. Harms is a former pastor of the Peabody United Methodist Church.
Don and Vickie Carmine of Coffeyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Leigh Carmine, to Jarrod Dean Gaines. Mr. Gaines and Miss Carmine plan to be married July 18 in the Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville.
Friday night, May 16, many friends and relatives of Jere Myers arrived at Davis Hall on Wyandotte County Community College late to surprise him. He was 40 on May 25.

Art Lewerenz, former Marion Countian most recently accused of improperly handling SRS department funds pled guilty to five charges last Tuesday. He had previously been sentenced in Marion County in the murder of his wife, the former Susan Olin of Peabody. For that crime, he served only a brief period of mental evaluation and a very brief prison term before being released and immediately hired by SRS as a finance officer.
A Mother's Day dinner was enjoyed Sunday by Mrs. Agnes Davis and relatives at the cafe at BETO Junction.
Honored on Mother's Day at the United Methodist Church were three young mothers, Mrs. Rex Jewell, Mrs. Larry Reagan, Mrs. Debbie Arnhold and the oldest mother present, Mrs. Rachael Meyer.

Mrs. Dorothy Tate, Peabody, started working at the Health Department this week, she is taking the place of Mary Ann Miller.
Mrs. Minnie Miller Nonken, one of the oldest residents of this area, died at her home in Peabody Saturday, May 4. She was one of the remaining pioneers of this area, being 95 years and 10 months old, having lived in Marion County for 85 years. The family moved to Peabody in 1900.
Lisa Porter had the chicken pox last week.

Mr. and Mis. T. M. Potter entertained a number of friends at a five course, 6 o'clock dinner Saturday evening in honor of their son, Rev. Dwight E. Potter of Oakland, California. The decorations were pink and white carnations.
Found south of town about 2 weeks ago, a brown fur boa. Owner may have same by paying for this notice.
At a meeting of the WRC last Saturday afternoon Mrs. Sawtelle gave a report of the convention in Topeka last weekend, we understand, her report was one of the best ever given to the society.

Mrs. Pecare will sell all her household goods, at a private sale, cheap, as she is planned to move away.
Frank Mendenhall, of Summit township, lost an infant, 3 weeks old, yesterday.
Mr. Robert Kent's little girl, 7 years old, died last Friday night and was buried Sunday.
A little 2 year old daughter of Mr. Hershey, died last Friday morning and was buried on Saturday afternoon.
