Paul and Marilyn Miller of Hillsboro were Monday luncheon guests of Margaret Jewell.
One of the major reasons Time magazine stopped in Peabody was to have lunch at Turkey Red. They lunched with several community leaders, including Mayor Porter, community coordinator Koni Jones, Peggy Phillips, and Terry Eberhard.
The 1997 version of the Peabody Cemetery tour will take place on Memorial Day weekend, May 25-26, 1997, from 1 to 4 p.m., both days. The tour will feature eight Civil War veterans who lived in Peabody and now lie in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Gary and Lynne Farr have opened The Farr Chiropractic Clinic at 1401-H.E. Maynard Road in Cary, N.C. An article appearing in the Cary News tells of their background and good acceptance in the community.
Mr. and Mrs. Hartman Baker have returned from a Hummel Anri tour of Europe. The tour was sponsored by Hallmark of Hutchinson.
A former resident, Warren Jones of Orange, Calif., has just had his 21st major heart attack and has been in St. Joseph Hospital in Orange since Thursday, April 15. He is due to be released shortly.

Douglas Heath of Manhattan spent Friday night and Saturday in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Heath and Karen.
The State Farmer Degree was conferred upon Douglas Gillett of the Peabody Future Farmers of America chapter Monday evening at the 29th annual FFA Kansas Association meeting in Manhattan.
Mrs. Mary Dyck and Mildred Rempel took over the operation of the Peabody Hotel Café yesterday, Wednesday, May 1, from Katie Bridel, who has operated the establishment for some time.

Oakland dateline. Rev. Dwight E. Potter, pastor of Union Street Presbyterian Church has announced his intention of relinquishing his pastorate to accept the position of assistant secretary of the Home Department of the Foreign Missionary board for the western district. His farewell sermon will be preached on the 5th of May. His new field will comprise 10 states, including the Pacific Coast and Rocky Mountain region. He is expected in Peabody today for a short visit and will probably speak at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening.
Mr. Lauck has set out a new orchard.
Jake Heath has bought the old Long house and is fixing it up for a dwelling.

Mrs. Strickland met with a painful accident Monday by piercing her wrist with the point of her shears.
Mr. John H. Snavely of Sterling, Ill., has decided to locate among us and has bought Mr. Calbeck's city residence. Mr. Calbeck will probably build a fine dwelling on his farm and live where he can better attend to his large and increasing livestock interests.
Calvin Mayes starts, today, on a trip to New York. His wife will accompany him to Illinois and Ohio where they will visit a short time, then Mr. Mayes will go to Saratoga, N.Y., to attend the meeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian church. They will be gone for about five weeks.
