As a part of its cross country trip along U.S.-50, Time Magazine editors and writers will stop in Hutchinson Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15.The trip is in conjunction with Time's two and one-half week bus trip which is exploring U.S.-50 as "the backbone of America," in search of the modern American dream. The bus caravan will make a stop for lunch in Peabody about 12:30 at the Turkey Red.

Eva Schupp spent Mother's Day at the home of her son, Ted Schupp and wife, Donna, and daughter, Courtney in Valley Center.

Donnie Lemley, who graduated from PBHS in 1996 and now is attending Kansas State University, has been notified he is a recipient of a $1,500 Patti Johnson Wilson Foundation scholarship for the 1997-98 school year.

Peabody will have a medical doctor in practice by late summer if plans announced at a special meeting Tuesday night work out as hoped. Dr. Kaye Martinez has agreed to come to Peabody in association with the Axtell group, on a full-time basis. She attended school on federal scholarships which require her to practice in a "health manpower shortage area" for a certain number of years.

Hazel Trumbo Dukelow, 90, of Hutchinson, and a former Peabody resident, died at Good Samaritan Center Tuesday, April 20. Survivors include her daughters, Muriel Wolfersperger of Peabody and Jo Davis of Newton.

Last week was the annual FFA parent member banquet and it seemed to go over well with the 125 attending. Past president Bernie Hansen was the guest speaker. Bernie lives in Manhattan and is owner of Flint Hills Meats Company in Alma.

april 26, 1957

Samuel Elmer Stovall, a resident of this area for almost 80 years, died last Friday, April 20, at Bethel Hospital, Newton, only a few hours after taking ill. He had been in good health and active up until the day of his death at age 85 years, 4 months, 18 days. He had two sons, Stanley A.J. of Peabody and Vernon D. of Wichita.

PTA met Monday, April 23 at the Brown Building for a covered dish dinner. New officers installed were president, Joe Stockebrand, vice president, Mrs. Harry Scrivner, secretary, Miss Karen Keckler, treasurer, Mrs. W.M. Mason.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Thach, Nita, Pat, and Charles and Mrs. Billy Frans were in Hutchinson attending a family reunion Sunday.

Arnold Berns fell last week while driving hogs and tore one of the ligaments in his knee loose. He is getting about with the aid of a cane.

Everybody is yearning for warm weather. Furs were plentiful on the street Tuesday.

Try a moon vine for shading that sunny window or porch. It has no equal. 10c apiece or 3 for 25c. Fred Gowan.

Miss Howell of Summit is threatened with appendicitis.

Flax seed, millet seed and timothy seed for sale at the hay press, Peabody.

A.A. Wheeler planted 23 acres of corn in one day last week.

A new line of neckwear for ladies — lace ties in all the new colors — shrimp pink, crushed strawberry, etc., at Mrs. Hardin's.
