Patrons and friends are invited to an open house Friday, April 18, at the co-op office during business hours to honor LeRoy Wetta. Wetta began employment at the Peabody branch in September 1978.

"Jake" Liptau, 73, 501 Vine, Peabody, died April 9, 1997, at Marion Manor Nursing Home, Marion. He was a farmer all his life and a lifetime resident of Marion County.

Gladys Mann's family gathered Sunday to celebrate her birthday. She attended church with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mann of Cedar Point at the Homestead Friends Church with the Rev. Larry Timm of Florence delivering the sermon. The family gathered in the Richard Mann home for the family birthday dinner.

Mrs. N.R. Stockebrand reports her current aerobics class has finished a nine-week session. A four-week session will begin soon. These women frequently appear before local groups as entertainment.

A new ladies' clothing store will be opening in Peabody in a few days. Marion (Mrs. Don) Rosine has purchased the remaining stock of the Bayes Cozy Casuals store in Peabody and will reopen the business under the new name of the Style Shop in a few days.

Lindsay Vogelman, PHS senior, placed fourth in the "Ramp Scamp Race" at the KU Engineering open house Saturday. The event features homemade miniature racing cars in a ramp climbing contest.

april 4, 1957

Lightning struck the Donald Herbert home Tuesday evening about 7 p.m., damaging the roof, wiring, and TV set in the room. This is the third time in seven years that this house has been hit by lightning.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Nellans are the parents of a son, David Lee, born April 1. He weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces.

The license of Helen's Grill to sell beer was revoked at a special meeting of the Peabody City Council last Thursday night. The action was taken following a "raid" on the establishment in which a bottle of alcoholic beverage was taken. In the back room they found several men who apparently had been drinking. Marshall Reed confiscated a nearly consumed bottle of vodka from a table around which the men had been seated.
