The Peabody Church of Christ is welcoming Tom Henry. Henry will be the preacher for the newly-formed congregation.

The Dennis Sherman family of Waverly came for Margie Grindstaff Friday. They went to Burlington to attend the Eagle Court of Honor for Carl Sherman, a grandson.

Joan Berns accompanied the Jim Whitefield family to visit her grandson, Jon Whitefield, a student at TCU in Fort Worth for a few days.

Peabody lost another business this week with the closing of Graham Printing. Rex Graham, who had operated the commercial printing shop in Peabody for 10 years, announced this week he had accepted a position with the Newton Kansan as pressman.

Among the graduate students featured in the latest Alumni Report of Wichita State University is Patricia Ketchum of Peabody, who now has her master of fine arts fellowship. Mrs. Ketchum is devoting full time to university studies and creative writing, leading to the MFA degree in 1983.

Last Sunday Bo Gaines celebrated his first birthday by having a dinner at his home with a few of his relatives. His guests were Shelley Gaines of Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. Rnnie Gaines, Dusty and Ty of Burns, Maude Gaines, Mr. and Mrs. James Gardener and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Gaines and his brother. R.J. of Peabody.

Johnny Searles has been absent the past week from school because of the flu.

Milton Hett underwent major surgery Tuesday at Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton.

Ernest F. Seibel, Route 3, entered Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton with a virus influenza and is not expected to be released for a few days.

Jane Nesbitt has sold her home on North Sycamore Street to W.F. Reed for $650.

A daughter was born to Dr. Johnson and wife last Thursday.

The Chrysanthemum Club had a pleasant meeting at the home of Mrs. Roy Fike last week. The meeting next week will be at the home of Mrs. Lucien Hoyt.

E.M. Rugg of the Marion Sugar Manufacturing Company called on us last Saturday. He reports great interest in the sorghum business in the Arkansas valley, from whence he had just returned, having made arrangements for a sorgho convention, to be held at Great Bend tomorrow.

The snow of last week caused the lovers of sleighing to rejoice. A party of 13 young ladies and gentlemen paid Mrs. Webster and Miss Freeland a visit and it was a surprise. The query as to how 13 can be put into one sled box and how it was managed by four horses, has been answered by that party. The solution can be had by calling on any of the party.

Mayor Kollock failed to appear at his usual place of business last Friday, but that was not so suspicious as the peculiar expression on his face the next day. A bouncing girl!
