Ray Davidson and Eleanor Grimwood were married at the home of the bride's parents in Cedar Point on Jan. 26, 1947. They have lived on their ranch north of Florence since 1951. They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at the Florence Senior Center, Sunday, March 23, from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Jeanne and Bruce Smith attended the flower and garden show Saturday in Wichita.

Eighteen Indian Guide residents enjoyed a pizza supper Saturday night. A decorated birthday cake was served in honor of three March birthdays: Elsie Foth, Pat Koch, and Norma Jean Liptau.

Mary Sue Holm received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Kansas State University in December 1981. She is a 1977 graduate of Peabody High School and for her final semester last fall had a 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Holm.

Jon Stucky of Raleigh, N.C., is a visitor in the Jess Stucky home. Jon came to visit his mother, Helen Stucky, and will remain until she returns home from the Halstead hospital.

Art Lewerenz was charged with 14 felony counts last week in Topeka in connection with alleged embezzlement of funds from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in Topeka. He is said to have attempted to defraud the State of Kansas of $14,187.13.

feb. 28 and march 7, 1957

A new café will open Monday in Peabody. Mrs. Helen Wilson and Mrs. Gladys Russell are the proprietors of this café to be operated in the old café location across the street south of the post office in the rear of the building occupied by Walker's Corner Store.

Harold Rood and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rood of Junction City attended the Iowa State-Kansas State game in Manhattan Saturday night.

Three Peabody lads were injured slightly last Wednesday night when the car they were riding in upset on a curve five miles east and a half south of Peabody. Driver of the car was Richard Mellott, 14, who said he failed to see the curve in time and lost control. It overturned and was completely demolished. He was badly bruised. Riding with Mellott were Myron Harris and Bobby Leman. All the boys were treated by a doctor in Peabody and released.

Mayor John DeForest and four of the five council members were renominated at the official caucus of the Citizens Party held Monday night at the city building. L.E. Tucker had declared he would not be a candidate this year. Renominated to serve on the governing body were Dan Klein, George Becker, Fred Highfill Jr., and Ray Beeton. Named to the fifth post was Jack Walker.

St. Luke Hospital at Marion will expand by 25-30 beds n the near future. The program will cost about $100,000 of which 40 percent will come from federal funds. Private donations are expected to take care of the needed amount.

The Sunflower Theatre has been closed permanently according to manager Ted Sheahon. The final show was held last Saturday night.

Ed Palmer has built an extra nice new fence around his place.

"The Mikado," the world's favorite comic opera will be given here March 22 by the Boston Ideal Comic Opera Company. "The Mikado," is no stranger to Peabody, but those who have seen it once are always glad to see it again.

W.A. Morgan and wife of Cottonwood Falls, who sailed for the Azore Islands the middle of January have been having some interesting experiences including an earthquake shake of considerable severity. The climate of the isles is very mild and flowers of 50 varieties are in bloom. They expect to sail for Genoa, Italy, on March 1.

Smallpox is on the increase at the little town of Severy.

I.A. Shriver and H.B. Brindley bought, last Saturday, two carloads of fat cattle of C. Rathbone and shipped them east this week. The prices paid were 5 and 5 1/2 cents per pound.

The ladies of the First Baptist Church of Peabody will give a missionary concert in the church Friday evening, March 17. All are cordially invited. Admission is free. Bring your pennies for the collection.

Jones, Hill and Company, the new proprietors of the Peabody Mills, are turning out a splendid quality of flour, we are informed by several ladies of this city who declare it "the very best" for bread, biscuits, etc.
