Darrek Hopkins
Darrek Eugene Hopkins, 34, of Newton, died Nov. 10, 2007, at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 22, 1973, at Newton. He lived with his family until he was 10 years old, then resided at Winfield State Hospital. He later moved to Northview Developmental Services at Hesston, then Newton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Hopkins; grandparents, Claude and Julia Hopkins, Glen and Marie Andrews, and Vernon Nonken.
Survivors include his parents, Darrell Hopkins of Joshua, Texas, Donna (Andrews) and Truman Slatten of Collins, Mo.; brother, Darren Hopkins of Levelland, Texas; stepsisters, Kathy Stark, Hope Espinoza, and Samantha Hudson; grandmother, Darleen Nonken of Peabody; and special caregiver, Marvin Stewart of Newton.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday at Whitewater Center Cemetery with Pastor Jim Pohlman officiating.
A memorial fund has been established with ResCare of Kansas, Newton.
