County out of running for coal-fired plant
Marion County didn't make the cut as the location for an electrical plant.
According to Marion County Commission Chairman Dan Holub, Westar Energy had contacted him in person and told him the county was eliminated as a contender for a coal-fired generating plant. Holub had applied on behalf of the county to have a multi-million dollar plant located in the county.
The county had made it through preliminary steps.
"It was a water issue," said Holub, who was disappointed with the outcome. This setback won't deter Holub from trying again.
"Even if it takes 100 tries, that 100th try might be it," he said.
Holub contacted the Marion County Record, Hillsboro Star-Journal, and Peabody Gazette-Bulletin Monday with the news.
