County funds approved for restoration at lake
Marion County Commission made a commitment Monday to Landon Leiker and Marion County Lake residents regarding restoration and repair of historical monuments at the lake.
Leiker had asked the commission to consider funding efforts to restore ovens, incinerators, and a boat landing for $6,200. Since the expense was not budgeted, the commission approved $3,100 for the incinerators in most need of repair and the boat landing.
More than 200 signatures had been collected by Leiker of those in favor of the county spending money for the restoration project.
"We need to move forward," said commissioner Bob Hein.
It was suggested that photographs showing the progression of the restoration project be posted at the lake office.
Lake and county residents are encouraged to participate April 14 in cleaning up the county lake.
The commission reviewed more than 20 applications for the position of lake superintendent. Current superintendent Dale Snelling and lake board members also will review the applications and choose four or five to interview.
