County continues contract to update maps

Marion County Commission approved a contract Friday that will continue the process of updating the county's aerial maps.

The pictometry buyout will require the county to pay $10,000 up front and $2,000 per year for the next two years from appraisal, planning and zoning, road and bridge, and 911 for a total of $26,000.

County appraiser Cindy Magill said a new base map will help cities, county departments, and individuals. The company will refly or re-take aerial photographs of U.S.-77 because of changes and other areas as needed because of changes.

In other business:

— Krause Welding of Hillsboro was the only bidder and was awarded the bid for the construction of two steel bridges for a total of $83,650. The bridges are 60 feet and 55 feet and will replace bridges at Quail Creek and 130th Road and one-quarter mile east of K-15 on 360th Road.

— Area fuel bids were divided between two bidders. Cardie Oil Company of Tampa had the low bid for areas one and two and Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro for areas three and four.

Cardie Oil Company presented a bid of $7,044 for 2,950 gallons of diesel fuel for an average cost of $2.388 per gallon.

Cooperative Grain and Supply had the low bid of $8,546 for 3,600 gallons of diesel fuel for an average cost of $2.374 per gallon.

— The commission approved a bid from GMLS Industries of Peabody for a metal building to be installed at the county health department. The original bid was $2,615 for the metal building with a 10 percent discount for ordering it in March. A window and screen was an additional $90, making the building a total of $2,713.

— A total of $756,662 in vouchers and paychecks were approved for the month of March.

— Sales tax that was collected in January was $39,245, slightly lower than the same time in 2006.

— County health administrator Diedre Serene requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

— County public works director Jim Herzet requested and received a five-minute executive session to discuss the acquisition of real property and discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

— Commissioner Bob Hein requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

— The commission entered a 30-minute executive session to review applications for the county lake superintendent position.

The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The next commission meeting is at 8 a.m. Monday when the commission will canvass the election results.
