Peabody City Council was able to wrap up a short agenda Monday night and finish its business earlier than usual.
Council agreed to table a resolution requested by Newton Mayor Willis Heck at the May 29 meeting. Heck wanted a letter of support for pursuing U.S.-50 highway improvements in 2010. City administrator Jeff Benbrook advised council members that he had not heard from Heck as to the official wording of the resolution and suggested they wait until additional information was available.
Following up on another topic from the previous meeting council members were told there would be a way to move ahead with some of the interior work at the new city shop building.
Councilman Delbert Mellott got some "bare bones" estimates on running the water and sewer systems with the work being done by city crews and the basic electrical service installed. Total cost to the city would be $5,700. City employees will do most of the work. Council members approved going ahead with the plan, 5-0.
