Community band, farmers market to host dinner, music

Doyle Valley Farmers Market and the Peabody Community Band will host an evening of dining and music Aug. 24 in Santa Fe Park.

Members of Doyle Valley Farmers Market will prepare and serve home-grown products for a 5:30 p.m. meal. Beef, flavorful vegetables straight from the gardens, homemade rolls, homemade ice cream, and assorted cookies will be served.

Tables will be set up with colorful coverings and fruit jars full of flowers. Serving will be buffet style and will include mint tea from the farm.

Tickets are necessary and are available at the farmers market each Saturday morning or by calling Mayesville Mercantile at 620-983-2210.

Dr. Virginia Skinner has again assembled a group of talented musicians who enjoy sharing music with others.

Peabody has a great tradition of bands and Don Skinner, Virginia's brother, has been researching music of the past.

Stories will be presented in upcoming issues of the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin.

This year "strings" will be featured as Skinner encourages musicians who played stringed instruments to participate in local musical events. Skinner also has consented to have the musicians be part of the fall event planned by the Peabody Historical Society based on "Saturday Nights in Peabody."

The concert on Aug. 24 is free to the public and perhaps a surprising percussionist will be on hand.
