Come one, come all!

By SHANE MARLER

Interim Executive Director Peabody Main Street Association

One of the highlights of the upcoming Operation Celebration: The 1940s celebration is a parade scheduled for May 24.

We are attempting to contact any and all Marion County veterans to be recognized in the parade. We also would like to have as many floats as possible with a 1940s theme.

The Operation Celebration concept began very simply. I wanted to have a parade to salute the veterans of World War II. They deserve it! They gave so much for the rights and liberties that so many of us take for granted today. Now is the time to pay our respects to those who served. Their numbers are dwindling.

If you are a veteran of World War II, please give us this chance to pay you the respect you deserve. We will do our utmost to make certain you are comfortable during the parade.

If you are reading this, and you have a relative that is a veteran, please encourage them to take part in this very special event. We would love to have veterans of all wars in the parade. Whether it is WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, or any conflict, they should be recognized.

If your relative is deceased, consider contributing something to the Vault of Treasures. This will be a large WWII memorabilia display in downtown Peabody over the Memorial Day weekend. Please take part in this wonderful tribute to the men and women who have given so much for us.
