Class of 1958 plans reunion years ago

Hard to believe it, but the Peabody High School class of 1958 is gearing up for the 50th anniversary of their graduation from Peabody High School. The class had 32 members. Organizers are planning a reunion to celebrate during Memorial Day weekend.

On May 24, the group will meet at 8 a.m. for breakfast at the Bread Basket at 219 N. Main, Newton.

The big event for that day is a 1958 Golf Classic Mixed Scramble at the Hesston Golf Course in Hesston. Anyone interested in playing may call Alan Mellott at 620-983-2940 for details. Those not playing golf may explore Peabody and seek out acquaintances from the past.

Saturday evening the class will attend "Operation Celebration: 1940s" in downtown Peabody, followed by the annual gathering at the home of Pat Hunnel at 504 Walnut, Peabody.

The 1958 alumni will meet at Peabody Senior Center at 11 a.m. May 25 for more visiting and sharing before being served a meal at noon. This will be a day of meeting and greeting classmates. Everyone is encouraged to bring yearbooks, old photos, scrapbooks, and mementos for everyone to enjoy.

On May 26 the group will attend the annual Memorial Day dinner at the Brown Building following services at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
