Clarence Harms
Clarence Harms, 101, died March 29, 2005, at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton.
Born Oct. 8, 1903, at Whitewater, he was the son of John and Mary (Schmidt) Harms.
He was a lifelong member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church. He attended Star Grade School and Hillsboro Academy for two years before beginning his career in farming.
On May 25, 1933, he married Alida Schmist at Grace Hill Mennonite Church. She died in 1958.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elva Harms.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Means of Littleton, Colo., and Patricia Ruth Janzen; a sister, Leona Harms of North Newton; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Newton with Pastor James Voth officiating.
Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with the church.
