City's strategic plan is complete

Peabody City Council, Peabody Main Street Association, local businesses, and community organizations have completed the strategic plan, made possible by a $15,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce Community Capacity Building Program. The plan includes goals and objectives for a variety of projects to work on over the next five years.

Goals include enhancing the appearance and promoting the city's historical designation, creating an activities center that will serve as a multi-purpose facility for the community, developing a cohesive economic development process, and providing a variety of housing opportunities in the community.

Specific projects outlined in the plan to reach some of these goals are developing welcome signage at Peabody's main entrances, updating infrastructure, a downtown streetscape project, developing a community center, and upgrading the industrial park among others.

The plan was developed to serve as a guide, a tool used to help groups work together in sharing a unified vision in future projects, goals, etc. Now that the plan is complete, local groups will continue working with the council to implement. Fund-raising will be a critical ingredient in action, and the council is exploring possibilities of funding support through various grant programs.

The firm Bucher, Willis and Ratliff assisted the team in development of the plan. Included in the plan is a compilation of drawings, cost estimates and plans for the streetscape project, and an outline of the steps needed to be taken to complete the goals outlined in the plan by the city council.

Thank you to all of you who assisted in the time, meetings and research needed to complete the plan. A copy of the plan may be viewed at the city building.
